PATRICIAN PHARMACY, Thailand — A Chinese man has been arrested in the northern Thai city of Pattaya for allegedly selling counterfeit medicines and a mixture of chemicals to a foreign country.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Health, which was released on the advice of the Prime Minister, a group of criminals was in the city center for a total of one week in early May.
Pattaya police arrested the suspected seller and handed him a 10-month prison sentence.
The suspect, who was identified as Zhang Chicheng, was also arrested on May 26 after authorities said he had been selling fake Viagra and other drugs to China.
The authorities believe the drugs were from a foreign source and that the man was from a group of Chinese men.
The government said the drug was purchased from an international website, a website run by the Chinese firm of Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, and it was sold without prescription.
The arrest comes after a government investigation has revealed that the suspect is still in custody.
Police said they were notified by the authorities on July 26 about the discovery of the suspected product, and they arrested the suspect, said the statement by the Ministry of Health.
